Welcome

The 2019 Asia-Pacific Meeting of the ESA will be held at New York University in Abu Dhabi, UAE, from January 23rd (Wednesday - Reception) to January 26th (Saturday).

The campus of NYU Abu Dhabi is located on Saadiyat Island, 5 minutes drive from the turquoise-blue waters of Saadiyat beach, 7 minutes from the new Louvre Abu Dhabi museum, 10 minutes from the city center of Abu Dhabi, an hour from (futuristic) Dubai, and an hour from the Empty Quarter -- the largest continuous sand desert in the world.

Abu Dhabi is a dynamic, modern and multi-cultural city. End of January is one of the best times of the year to visit Abu Dhabi with average temperatures of 25/16 degrees Celsius (77/61 Fahrenheit).

  • Transportation to and from the conference

  • In general, taxis are very cheap in Abu Dhabi and is the mode of transport most people use. Note however, that taxis only accept cash. The 35-40 minute ride on the highway from the airport to the NYUAD campus costs about 90-100 AED (i.e., $25-$28). Nevertheless, we have organized transportation to the conference from the above mentioned hotels.

  • The bus will depart each hotel for NYUAD at:
  • 07:30 on 24 January
  • 08:15 on 25 January
  • 08:15 on 26 January

  • There will be a drop-off service to the same hotels from the conference as follows:
  • 17:00 on 24 January
  • 13:30 on 26 January
  • The conference dinner will take place at the Saadiyat Beach Club on Friday, 25 January. A bus will depart from the Welcome Center on the NYU Abu Dhabi campus at 17:00 to the Saadiyat Beach Club, and from there, buses depart the Beach Club at 20:30 to each of the hotels above.
